DRDO’s anti-COVID drug – 2-deoxy-D-glucose :
India is fighting against second wave of coronaviruses from long time. At a time when India

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lunched the first batch of the anti-COVID-19 drug 2-deoxy- D-glucose (2-DG) on today (May 17, 2021, Monday).
More than 10,000 doses of the anti- COVID-19 drug – 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG), which comes in powder form and dissolved in water and taken orally. The doses will be distributed to hospitals in the national capital.
The anti-COVID-19 therapeutic application of the drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose has been
developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a laboratory of
the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), in collaboration with Dr.
Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), Hyderabad.
During anti-COVID-19 drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) lunching the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and AIIMS Delhi Director Dr. Randeep Guleria were also present.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the oral drug for emergency use as an adjunct therapy in moderate to severe coronavirus patients on this month.
Results of clinical trials have shown that this molecule helps in rapid recovery of hospitalized patients and reduces supplemental oxygen dependence.
A high proportion of patients treated with 2-DG showed RT-PCR negative conversion in COVID patients.
It helps in a faster recovery of hospitalised patients and reduces supplemental oxygen dependence. The drug will be of immense benefit to people suffering from COVID-19.
